Another camera that I first saw on Gizmodo is the DiMAGE Z1. I was just looking at Amazon's camera listing and saw that I could preorder this baby for only $399!

When I first saw the EOS10D I thought that is the digital camera that I want, but at $1400 bucks plus lense that was pretty steep. Today I saw this camera on Gizmodo - EOS Digital Rebel and that is much more doable.
